Song of the Week

7/31 Here’s a cool new tune from the rad HAIM ladies! Sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana are talented musicians and vocalists who began performing together with various groups in 2005. The band has released two albums, Days Are Gone in 2013 and Something To Tell You earlier this month. Check out You Never Knew, my personal favorite new track right now, here:

7/24 Another new track from an old favorite. Not only is he a stand-out musician, Jack Johnson is known for his work with community and environmental organizations. His 7th studio album, All The Light Above It Too, is scheduled for release on September 8th. Until then, check out the first single here!

7/17 Electric (see what I did there) new track from Arcade Fire, the fourth of four singles released by the band this summer. Their 5th studio album, Everything Now, will be released on July 28th.

P. S. the album is co-produced by Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk 🙂 enjoy!

7/10 This is a song from one of my longtime favorite artists, the Dave Matthews Band. Ever since I was introduced to DMB as a child in the back of my mom’s car on a hot summer night with the windows down (now you have a vivid setting to visualize yourself in as you listen), I have turned to his music when I need a sense of peaceful freedom and a taste of home. The hypnotic saxophone (played by the late LeRoi Moore) and Dave’s ever-emotional voice, along with the song’s composition, make for a mesmerizing track.

7/3 In honor of the Fourth of July, here’s Jimi Hendrix’s mind-blowing performance of the Star Spangled Banner, performed live in 1970 at the Berkeley Center in California:TheJimiHendrixExperience_LiveAtBerkeley_G0100018875338_F_001_72dpi

6/26 Here’s a groovy track from up-and-coming Australian-born band Parcels. Overnight, an infectious new single released just this past week, has smooth bass lines, a 70’s-esque disco sound, and just makes you want to dance (well, it makes me want to dance). And, get ready for this bombshell: it’s produced by Daft Punk. How can it not be great??

Give this song and this band some love.

6/19 My second Song of the Week pick has a very different sound, but is just as worthy of a listen!

Released as the third single from their third album, Relaxer, alt-J delivers a chilling, all-encompassing sound on Adeline. The song builds continually throughout and it is sure to give you chills. Check it out here:

6/12 Hello! This is my first Song of the Week post! Each week, I will share one standout song that I’ve recently discovered, rediscovered, or just a favorite of mine.

The first song is by one of my favorite artists, Maryland-native rapper Logic. He recently released his fourth studio album, Everybody, a powerful concept album that challenges us to push beyond traditional societal norms, advocate for equality, and show love and compassion to ourselves and to others. I’m sharing the track, Black SpiderMan, featuring the talented Damian Lemar Hudson. It’s soulful, upbeat, classy, and packs an important message about equality, stereotypes, and self-expression. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen (and enjoy the music video too!):
